All Is Calm…

12.19.0812.19.08deerThe beauty here is quite indescribable.  It’s peaceful and wonderful.  We’ve started feeding the deer again.  Having the snow come so quick, so deep and with such low temperatures is hard on them, so we’ll do our little part here to help the deer population out.

I’m a little sad too this morning.  My family headed across the state to meet up with the rest of the fam to celebrate Christmas with Mr T’s side of the family.  With the weather the way it is, it’s necessary that someone stay on the home front to make sure things are OK here.  We have 2 fires that have to keep going 24/7 and animals who’s water dishes seem to be continually frozen.  Besides I would so much rather be the one NOT driving on those roads and over a pass where chains are required.  The other thing that’s happening today is my #2 child is having her wisdom teeth pulled, actually probably right now as I’m writing this.  I makes me feel horrible that I’m not there for her but at 20 I also know that there are many paths she’ll cross where I can’t be by her side.  She’ll do just fine and her dad will bring her home tomorrow night so I can take care of her then.

wallflower for Mom TI made this for my m-i-l.  We lost my father-in-law just a little over a year ago and when I was trying to think of what to make Mom T, I just couldn’t get past this idea of “No Tears In Heaven” (which I’ve used once before).  I think that she will be deeply touched by this very personal ‘Wallflower’.

the Stockings are hung~

does that say -9?

Baby, it's cold outside

I finished some Christmas stockings for my niece and her hubby.

wool stockingsI first used this pattern 25 years ago when I made ours and I loved doing cross-stitch.

our stockingsMy sister-in-law taught me how to cross stitch when I was 17 and I did a lot of it until I had my 1st babe @ 23.  After that I had absolutely no interest in it.  I had always planned to make these for our kids but I just couldn’t get passed the idea of cross-stitching their names.  Eventually, I bought these for them.

When my mom first bought her beautiful computerized Bernina with embroidery capabilities, I started making these stockings (in the 1st pic) for everyone.  I have 29 names listed….but my poor kids never got theirs.  It’s OK, I really don’t feel too bad, afterall, it’s hard to get rid of Christmas decor that holds the memories.  I may make them some ‘grown-up’ stockings someday but I hope that when I do that there will be a twinge of sadness that goes along with their JOY.

I sent off my Swappy Ladies gift…

…and it’s been received on the other end by Leslie the JunkGirl – so I’m going to post my pics, then when I receive hers I will be sure to post those.   The rules to this swap were: to repurpose one item and send an item that is autumn-inspired.

the front of this box is embellished with a piece of map to remind Leslie where she is from 🙂 and it has a charm made with a bottle cap

This was loads of fun to exchange with Leslie and I know that the best is yet to come…… 🙂

Yesterday I did garden clean-up all day (w/a bit of help from Mr T).  It’s a lot easier to do this I’m sure when the ground isn’t already frozen but we muddled our way through.  I got some garlic planted which I’m very excited about and when Mr T was picking apples he found a nest and asked me if I wanted it.  Of course, I’ll add it to the pile.  Well, it had the most perfect robin’s egg in it.  I’ll try to get a pic sent tomorrow.  It was a thrill (& a little sad).

I made this no-peel apple cake over the weekend and it was oh-my-goodness-good.  That link also takes you to a blog that is wonderful to follow and very inspiring in regards to entertaining.

I am coming up on my 1st year of blogging.  Anyone who leaves a comment on October 30th will be entered into a drawing for something delightfully…mmmm….DELIGHTFUL!

Happy Birthday Eve!

I enjoy sending each package off with a few extra touches!

I enjoy sending each package off with a few extra touches!

Eve turns 1 today (you can find her mamma here + pics of Eve) and her grammy ordered a custom charm bracelet for her.  I’ve had a lot of requests for bracelets but it’s just an area where I haven’t entered so I was very excited to work on this one…also, a little nervous because it’s for such a wee one.  I’m worried that it’s too big…or the charm may come off (& she’ll swallow it and die)…or….  (I’ve got to remember my ‘fretting’ post…OFTEN!)  😉

I made a sweet little storage bag out of some vintage dotted swiss and added a charm that I had.
