Tinker Verve

creating with spirit & enthusiasm…often with great results

Last week my task for myself was to get my house decorated for Christmas.

I usually do it Thanksgiving weekend but since I was gone that weekend it didn’t get done.  Then I had my little Christmas show to do and then….it could be put off no longer.

I was surprised at how much I enjoyed decorating this year.  I got a little weepy at times because it was the first year that I didn’t have my kids involved in any aspect of it and there are so many thoughts that run through my mind as I open up the boxes that contain years of treasured memories.

Even with those glistening eyes I enjoyed it all as I tinkered about here and there with a smile on my face…adding a touch of this and a touch of that around our home!

We love cutting a fresh tree each year.  The more natural the better and this year’s is natural and beautiful.  I love the little hidden cones that are on it.

I took advantage of a bit of inspiration and I made this canvas.  Mr T made a 20″x28″  frame for me, I stretched some heavy  fabric over it, put a light coat of a greenish paint on it, cut the letters out on my cricut, used my special Boho Glue to put them on {much like Mod Podge}, covered the whole canvas in the glue, roughed up the edges a bit with black paint and hung lights behind it.  I really like it.

These clothespins are glittered and ready to hang the Christmas cards that come in the mail.

Our 2011 Christmas tree…I took this the night we put it up.

Christmas Eve:~

Today is a quiet day in our home.  Our kids will start arriving tomorrow night and Sunday night which makes Christmas Day a little sad but knowing that they will all be home at the same time truly makes this mom’s heart happy!

Tomorrow will be filled with gaiety as most of my family will be here to celebrate.

In this picture our tree may look like a 16′ Charlie Brown Christmas tree but it is far more beautiful than the picture shows {especially at night time}.

I made this ornament for our kids to commemorate this special year with the wee~one growing {daily} …to make his debut in May!

May the Blessing that God sent to Earth touch your heart and your home.

O, Christmas Tree!

When we get a Christmas tree we go up on the mountain and look for a ‘keeper’.

This is Andrew and Jackie’s first year to have a tree {last year they were staying in someone else’s house so it just didn’t work}.  She has been SO excited to go out and get their tree so with my dad’s help we cut down two trees one for A&J and one for us.

At 10° posing for a picture just didn’t seem that grand!

We are beginning to enjoying the JOYS of the season…

Blessed beyond!

My favorite holiday will always be one that is shared with family.  Nineteen of the 22 that make up our family were gathered in our home yesterday and 2010 seems to promise to add two more to the family.

…one of those ‘promised’ ones will be added to this little team.  They’re hopeful for a boy.

Merry Christmas…

I can’t let this day get too far ahead of me without taking a few moments to wish you and yours a very blessed and bright Christmas Day as we celebrate the birth of our Saviour!

May it be filled with love, laughter and wonderful food!

Be Merry

I need to move beyond stockings…

I thought I was done with stockings and then I came up with a different idea.

These came out nothing like my ‘idea’ but they are fun {and that ‘idea’ is still rattling around up there…}.

The cuff on this one was made with ½ of a vintage linen napkin.

When I started this one I was planning to use the other half of the napkin but this just seemed to ‘fit’ better.

And, with the addition of a nicely-aged, red velvet button, it’s ready to go.

I designed a tag that I’ll just use @ my {one, so far} Christmas Show, A Vintage Christmas!

A friend for all seasons…

Amber gave me my {somewhat} belated birthday gift this past week while I was visiting her.

She hand-pieced this sweet and very personal cuff for me.  It’s beautiful and so thoughtful…we have, indeed, been friends through many seasons…

…seasons that go beyond; spring, summer, autumn, winter!

I love late birthday gifts and I love friends!!!

I finished my Christmas stockings.  I added a “JOY” tag to each one and it just gives them that ‘finished’ look that I needed to see.

Chic Rustique

I love learning new things about me.

Actually, it’s more like…putting together the pieces that were already there.

As I was recently shopping for burlap I was also compelled to put something beautiful and shimmery with it.

Working with this project I decided that so much of my life is like that…rustic beauty .  It’s what I’m drawn to the most {in fact, when Mr T brought me the beautiful pink roses last night I went and grabbed an old oil can for the vase}.

So I had to give it a name.

I was recently asked on a vendor application what my style was.  I wasn’t really sure…in fact, I checked several boxes.  Now I can say that I’m ‘Chic Rustique’.

Even though I put quite a bit of time giving a name to my new-founded style, it doesn’t take long in a Google search to realize that I’m certainly not the first one but it still feels unique to me….uniquely chic rustique!

I have loved working on these Christmas Stockings that were completely inspired by Karoline.  She often tickles a creative nerve in me with the sweet goodness that she shares on her blog.

Sunday Inspirations!

The family.  We were a strange little band of characters trudging through life sharing diseases and toothpaste, coveting one another’s desserts, hiding shampoo, borrowing money, locking each other out of our rooms, inflicting pain and kissing to heal it in the same instant, loving, laughing, defending, and trying to figure out the common thread that bound us all together.  ~Erma Bombeck

My Christmas Holiday 2008

My Christmas Holiday 2008

I can’t remember when I’ve enjoyed our Christmas Holiday so much.  As it comes to a close, I find those little tears puddling in the corners of my eyes as I think about just how incredibly blessed that I am.  I know that my steps have been ordered and directed by God and my thankfulness to Him goes beyond words.  I live out His goodness in my life each and every day.
