1″ Life Sampler ~

Reading Karoline’s blog yesterday completely inspired me to jump in and join…

What am I jumping into???

Amy is working on a fun project and has invited anyone {even me!} to join in.

This is what it is…a sampler that has been divided into 1″ squares.  Each square will have a different piece of embroidery work done in it.  Go over HERE to see for yourself.

I’ve been giving this a lot of thought…probably too much, because I feel like I need to mix it up a little.  Amy has called the project 39 squares in honor of her ‘looking forward’ to her 39th birthday.  Since 39 didn’t have any special meaning for me, I just couldn’t slip comfortably into that number.  I decided that I wanted to do a 1″ square that represented every year of my life (and I’m already WAY behind).

I’m not going to work with each square in order…I’m going to jump around.  As I work on it I feel that I’ll come up with significant events that happened during those early years or meaningful items that can be incorporated.  I’ve already asked my mom if she has any of the fabric from my wedding dress (she made it) so I can work with that for 1985.

So, as you can see, I’ve completed my first 1″ square and, I’ve already messed up.  I wanted the teacup to go on 1993, because I was intensely into tea time during the early 90’s and I was accumulating anything I could get my hands on to go with that theme.  Well, I accidentally put the teacup on 1973…I wasn’t so much into tea when I was 10 but, OH WELL!.

I think I’ll call this my 1″ Life Sampler.

I can absolutely see this as being an heirloom and that excites me!

A couple of years ago I purchased the book, Doodle Stitching.  I haven’t used it but now I think I’m going to love it!

  4. What a brilliant idea – I can’t wait to see more of your squares. Maybe since life blurs together you should just randomize your squares – like the first one isn’t for the first year and it makes it kind of a secret because only you can put the whole life in order

    • It’s fun and yes, hopefully it will be cute as well. I’ll try to post as I progress but it won’t be finished until the year I’m gone (most of the people in my family live into their 90’s)…I’m hoping that even that year I’ll be able to do my one last block…or one of my daughters will do it for me. …sounds sweet! >
